On pandit ravi Shankar @srisrispeaks –pandit ravishankar was a legend in music and he took classical music to new height.
For the last time when he played sitar he played it with oxygen mask with her daughter anushka. He ruled all illness with his melodies that day. Its in California state university performing arts centre. His admirer says he don’t love holidays from his sitar,but in 121212 he breath his last leaving behind his all vast creation. Before that he heard that in 55th grammy award he and her daughter  are contentender.
The proud father says hope anushka will make it this time. He already grab it 3 times. His another daughter nora won 3 times as much of the great maestro. His last performance in this country is in 7th feb 2012 in bengaluru. The programme named farewell to bengaluru.
His guru is ustad allaudin khan, who is a sarod samrat. The speciality of his sitar that he learned it from a sarod samrat. In his book “my life my music” he wrote at first he thought of learning sitar ustad vilayat khan”s father ustad enayat khan. then he goes to ustad allaudin khan.
The famous amzad ali khan says that sarod or sitar can be played by correctly only by divine. And he is next to divine.
His sitar is lively; as well as the contribution of dhrupad and binkari is visible. With his sitar the maestro give effect of rudra veena.
On the request of ex-indian PM shrimati indira Gandhi he create the signature tone of doordarsan. Once in 1945 in Mumbai he heard sare jaha se acha. Then he recreated the music of that song.
In 1930 he went to paris and started uday Shankar company of hindu dancers and musicians.before that ppl know mahatma Gandhi,rabindranath tagore & swami Vivekananda. Within new years a new global icon was born of india.
In 1939 he started uday Shankar india cultural centre in almora.
He give music in famous satyajit ray”s apu triology and also in Gandhi.
After the demise of satyajit ray he released a album “Farewell my friend” .
Few years BBC featured a programme “East & west” in which mahatma Gandhi have 5 min. ,Nehru have 2 min,and panddit ji have 35min.
George Harrison of beatles said him the god father of world music.
It’s the initiative of George Harrison that he conduct a programme for 1971 bangladesh victim with pandit ji,ali akbar khan,allah rakha.
In 1956, he began to tour Europe and the Americas playing Indian classical music and increased its popularity there in the 1960s through teaching, performance, and his association with violinist Yehudi Menuhin and rock artist George Harrison of The Beatles. Shankar engaged Western music by writing concerti for sitar and orchestra and toured the world in the 1970s and 1980s. From 1986 to 1992 he served as a nominated member of the upper chamber of the Parliament of India. Shankar was awarded India's highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, in 1999, and received three Grammy Awards. He continued to perform in the 2000s, sometimes with his younger daughter, Anoushka.
Shankar married Allauddin Khan's daughter Annapurna Devi in 1941 and a son, Shubhendra Shankar, was born in 1942.Shankar separated from Devi during the 1940s and had a relationship with Kamala Shastri, a danseuse, beginning in the late 1940s. An affair with Sue Jones, a New York concert producer, led to the birth of Norah Jones in 1979.After separating from Kamala Shastri in 1981, Shankar lived with Sue Jones until 1986. He married Sukanya Rajan in 1989 at Chilkur Temple in Hyderabad, India. He had known her since the 1970s. In 1981, Anoushka Shankar was born to Shankar and Sukanya Rajan.
Shubhendra "Shubho" Shankar often accompanied his father on tours. He could play the sitar and surbahar, but elected not to pursue a solo career and died in 1992. Norah Jones became a successful musician in the 2000s, winning eight Grammy Awards in 2003.Anoushka Shankar was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best World Music Album in 2003. Anoushka and her father were nominated for Best World Music Album at the 2013 Grammy Awards for separate albums.
Shankar was a Hindu and a vegetarian. He lived with Sukanya in Encinitas, California.
Organisers of the Recording Academy announced on 13 December 2012 that Pandit Ravi Shankar, the sitar maestro would be honoured with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award posthumously. Pandit Ravi Shankar would become first Indian to receive the prestigious award. The award would be presented at 55th Grammy Awards ceremony on 10 February 2013 in Los Angeles. Pandit Ravi Shankar is a three-time Grammy Award winner.
His music when we hear brings serenity in mind.
In hindi we say 7 suro se bana hai sangeet. Saa-suro ka gyan, re-reyaz, ga –gaharai, maa-mayajal, paa-parmeswar ki kripa, dha- dhyan, ni-nirajan ,nirakar…
He is next to that niranjan, nirakar divinity.
